Krishna Janmashtami , also known as “Krishnashtami”,”Saatam Aatham” ,”Gokulashtami”, “Ashtami Rohini”, “Srikrishna Jayanti”, “Sree Jayanthi” or sometimes merely as “Janmashtami”, is a Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, an avatar of the Hindu deity Vishnu.

Krishna Janmashtami is observed on the Ashtami tithi, the eighth day of the dark half or Krishna Paksha of the month of Shraavana in the Hindu calendar, when the Rohini Nakshatra is ascendant. The festival always falls within mid-August to mid-September in the Gregorian calendar. In 2009, for example, the festival was celebrated on the 14th of August, while in 2010, the festival will be celebrated on 2nd September.

Rasa lila or dramatic enactments of the life of Krishna are a special feature in regions of Mathura and Vrindavan, and regions following Vaishnavism in Manipur. While the Rasa Lila recreates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna’s youthful days, Govinda Pathaks or Dahi Handi celebrate the God’s playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it. This tradition also known as Uriadi is a major event in Tamil Nadu on Gokulashtami.

In Mumbai today Dahi Handi competition is going on in the streets.Dahi Handi generally takes place on the second day of Janmashtami. An earthen pot containing a mixture of milk, dry fruits, ghee is hung around 20-30 feet high in the air with the help of a rope. Silver coins are hung along with the rope,which are later distributed as prize to the winners. Enthusiastic young men, form a human pyramid by standing one on top of the other, trying to break the pot. Onlookers throw water on the young men in order to prevent them from breaking the pot. Breaking of the pot is followed by prize distribution. Devotees believe that the broken pieces of earthen pot will keep away mice and negative powers from their homes.

Dahi Handi is celebrated with fervor, especially in the twin cities of Mathura - Vrindavan, Dwarka and Mumbai. Young men in Mumbai yell ‘Ala re ala, Govinda ala’ during the ceremony.

2. सपने में सखी देख्‍यो नन्‍दगोपाल - मूल रूप से यह भजन राजा के पिता रफीक सागर साहब द्वारा लिखा गया एवं संगीतबद्ध भी किया गया । फिल्‍म क्षत्रीय के लिए कविता कृष्‍णमूर्ति द्वारा यह गीत गाया गया था ।

बचपन से ही राजा अपने पिताजी द्वारा रचित यह गीत अपने सभी कार्यक्रमों में प्रस्‍तुत किया करता था और यह राजा का मनपसन्‍द भजन भी है । प्रस्‍तुत विडियो से आपको अन्‍दाजा लग जाऐगा कि राजा को यह भजन कितना पसन्‍द है, और कब से पसन्‍द है ।

यहॉं यह भी बता देना जरूरी है कि जब यह विडियो बनाया गया, तब राजा हसन को बहुत कम लोग जानते थे क्‍यों कि यह आज से लगभग 11 वर्ष पूर्व का विडियो है ।

In the Assam show Raja performed on the song Yaad Aa Raha Hai and danced like a disco dancer. He entertained the audience with his electrifying performance. This song was originally from the superhit movie Disco Dancer starring Mithun Chakraborty and music for the movie was by Bappi Da.

In Saregamapa 2007 after Raja performed on the song Sapne main Milti hai Shekhar said that ” Raja aap ko bada playback singer ban na hai aur jab aap bade playback singer ban jaoge tab Vishal Shekhar ki jeet hogi and Vishal said that the way Raja performed it seemed that he was entertaining the audience from years and it is natural talent given by the almighty.

Let us hope the Vishal Shekhar gives Raja more songs and makes him more big playback singer.

You can also see this natural talent of Raja in all his performances. He interacts with the audience from the word go and runs from one end of the stage to another and dances and performs with full energy. Watching Raja Hasan peform is a treat for the audience.
